May 8/04 Fished opening day on Five Mile Dam. Landed 17 rainbows, two over 8lbs. They grow them big there.  Met Rock Star Steve there.  He had a good day as well fly fishing off shore.
June 5/04 Bone was tough today. Julio had a monster brown on for a second, then lost it. Rick caught a sucker. Rick and Julio fell in the creek. Julio poked a hole in his waders. Tim laughed, but then he started having flashbacks of Stauffer Creek. Rick broke off a big brown on Conglomerate in a pool where Tim and Julio thought there were no fish. Guess he showed them! Julio caught a nice Brookie on Bear, but broke his bamboo rod on a snag. Rick fell into a red ant pile. Tim laughed. Man, that's fly fishing!
July 10-16/04   Loch Leven was hot, but only for about a week this year, until the weeds really started to pop.  Bob spent a couple nights there and caught six cutties ranging from 6.5 to 8 lbs.  Also a brookie over 4.  I knew I should be out there, but was still having fun on five mile dam.  All in all, it was a good spring on five mile.

July 9/04 Fished Shannon Lake at Narrow Hills Provincial Park this evening for the first time ever.  Fished 2 and a half hours before I got a hit.  Then I hooked the largest brown I have ever had on, and couldn't get it into the net.  It was over 26" and really a really hot fish.  He beat me in the end, and I never got his picture.  Caught another one within fifteen minutes that went about 5 pounds.  Should have stayed on the lake, as the bite was definitely on, but I was really there to teach a fly fishing course the next day, and had to set up camp and prepare for the morning.  Still, I had found a lake to take the class to on the next day...

July 10/04  Had a good day with the class.  Spent the on the water session on Shannon.  No one caught a fish, but a few got bites, which was encouraging.  No one was able to stay later than 6pm, which was too bad, because in my mind, good brown fishing is just starting at the time.  The later you can stay out, the better.  I fished hard, had several bites, but was only able to land one fish, just over 20".  Shannon is a lake with real potential, and I intend to get back to fish it and others in its vicinity.  The park is beautiful, with good camping.  The Krushekowskis at Pine Ridge Resort are excellent people.  Well worth the trip.  I was sorry to leave early Sunday to come home, rather than spend a few hours on the water first.

August 3/04  The dog days are here.  Even though Battle and Bone will still be producing,  it is too hot for my liking.  I am also doing penance and handling maintenance jobs around the house, because of the upcoming trip to the World Fly Fishing Championships in Slovakia.  Two more weeks, and I am gone.  Lots of details still to cover.  I hope the food is good.  I'm really looking forward to the 4 days I will be spending in Inverness, Scotland on the way home.  Have a buddy there who has lined up some salmon fishing on the River Ness.  It will be a trip of new experiences.
